There are 2 Monterey Bay Caterers!!! One is caterers and the other catering.

The one I like is located in Watsonville. MBC CaterERS has a small counter that holds about 8 persons. Most people get their food to go.

The cook and owner usually comes out for a break around 1:30. He chats with staff and customers about whatever. G

Good, fresh food. They will give you exactly what you want. No over eating unless you choose. The place has to die for meatloaf and gravy. Try the brownies for a $1.00.

A lot of young people have died to keep America safe and the world safe from terrorists. How best to keep faith with them?

The 7th Wave is playing at the Cafe Rio in Aptos. Aptos has few live music bands on the weekend so that is GREAT to hear. But what is the FISH special of the day? Ah, well, guess I will go and see since last time the food (mussels) were excellent. I hear they have some new Big Bite appetizers to try.

Try this for biscotti: 1 1/4 sticks unsalted butter, 3/4 C organic flour, 1 1/2 C sugar, 1 TBSP organic baking powder!, 1/3 tsp salt, 3 large organic eggs, 1 C organic almonds, 1 TBSP real vanila.

Preparation: Position rack in middle of oven. Heat to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Sift flour, baking powder and salto into one bowl. Mix sugar, melted butter separately and stir until well blended. Mix in almonds (toasted and chopped). Divide dough into two. Uising floured hands, shape into two loats, about 13 inches long by 2 1/2 wide.

Transfer onto baking sheet. Buush with egg white that is beaten until foamy. Bake about 30 minutes. Cool on sheet placed on a rack about 25 minutes. Maintain oven temperature. Using a serrated knife, cut logs on diagonal into 1/2 inch wide slices. Arrange on same baking sheet.

Put back into oven at 350 for second bake: Bake 12 minutes. Turn over. Bake until just beginning to color – about 8 more minutes. Transfer to rack to cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Tell us how it worked for you!

On Friday the Beach Cowboys play at 8 pm at the Cafe Rio in Aptos. On Friday something called the Seventh Wave plays. Will the music be low enough so I can talk to someone next to me?! That is my standard. I want to talk to whoever I went out with and not be overpowered by electronic gizmos. Of the two choices, I’m going to try the Beach Cowboys. And the fresh fish special.

We’re looking forward to eating sand dabs and mussels at Cafe Rio tonight. And maybe a couple of their house dinner salads that come with shrimp ( only $4). And a COOL drink for this WARM day! Beautiful day in Aptos today. Look at the great water view outside the restaurant!

Great simple food on Monther’s Day: Have plenty of fresh picked crab and shrimp, a casarole dish buttered on bottom and sides, 2 cups rice cooked (4 1/4 c good water, 2 cups Uncle Ben type rice, plenty of shredded chedder cheese and whatever else cheese in refrigerator, fresh nutmeg, 2 Tbsp. sherry.

Start with a layer of rice, then a layer of warm Alfredo sauce (kind all ready to put on pasta), layer of seafood, dash of nutmeg, sprinkle a Tbsp. of sherry. Layer again. Finish with sauce on top.

Cook at 325 degrees in oven with tin foil or top on for half an hour and then remove top. So gets bubbly and a bit brown. Cook slow so the seafood permeates the rice and sauce. Easy to make. Great food to serve your kids on Mother’s Day. Then put up your feet and give thanks for FAMILY!

Serve with salad and french bread.

How about an excellent appetizer and 2 glasses of house wine for $10? Go to Cafe Rio – in my opinion the best overall restaurant in Aptos. I was there tonight and had their mussels. Could not have been better. Then take a walk on the beach right in front. Beautiful evening.
