Both Catholic — will Trump pick an Hispanic Cuban-American OR a Scalia protege with 7 kids?

To replace Supreme Court Justice  Ginsberg who recently died — which caused a huge surge in donations to the Democrats –– who will Trump  pick?  Two women — both Catholics  –  are likely prospects:   front runner Catholic    Amy Barrett  a conservative originalist/   Scalia protege  or Barbara Lago a Catholic and  Cuban American from Florida.  Barrett.

Think  about Trump’s Art of the Deal approach.  Trump needs to win 270 electorial votes  and Florida may be a key state.  Barbara Lagoa can  appeal not only to women in general but also to   Hispanics, Cubans  and Florida voters.

Both Barett and Lagoa are Catholics which  brings to the fore  the highly divisive issue of  abortion funding  and Wade vs Roe’s future.   Abortion comes back to the fore as a hot issue in the 2020 elections. So does freedom to practice one’s religion.

The smear tactics used by the Democrats  on Kavanaugh  most  likely  will re- surface.

Remember what Kamala Harris  — now Biden’s running mate –  said in 2018:

“Kavanaugh chooses his words very carefully, and this is a dog whistle for going after birth control. He was nominated for the purpose of taking away a woman’s constitutionally protected right to make her own health care decisions. Make no mistake – this is about punishing women.”.    Kamala Harris led the attacks on Kavanaugh — remember?

This is from Forbes:   “Like several of the court’s more conservative justices, Amy Coney Barrett has described herself as an “originalist,” meaning she bases her rulings on what she believes was the original intent of the Constitution’s authors. A social conservative, Coney Barrett signed a joint letter in 2015, prior to becoming a judge, affirming “the value of human life from conception to natural death” and asserting that marriage is “founded on the indissoluble commitment of a man and a woman” — which raised concerned among LGBTQ groups that she would oppose gay marriage.’

Barbara Lagoa  may seem  a safer bet for Trump to get ‘on the ticket’ a woman, a woman of ‘color’ [loosely defined], a woman who can appeal to a wide range of voters [Florida, women, Hispanic, Cuban, conservatives] who will not worry Pro Choice voters.

Nominating Amy Barrett  or Barbara Lagoa may unleash the same  unbridled fury unleashed by the Democrats  on Kavanaugh  and — if that happens — it may just come back to bite  Democrats  on election day 2020.

In 1960 a central issue was whether Kennedy — a Catholic — would be  inappropriately influenced by his Catholic beliefs.  Kennedy had to overcome anti-Catholic bias. . K   Now we have two women — both Cathoic and both ‘conservative’ — nominated to be on the Supreme Court.

Trump must get a certain number of electoral votes.  Florida matters.  The state of Pennsylvania looks like it may be a mess with elections decided by the courts.  The whole ‘vote by mail’ is may tie the actual decision based on vote counting well  beyond Election Night. Both women are Catholic and equally likely to un-leash Democrat ire towards ProLife and fears about federal funding for abortions.

Which nominee is more likely to give Trump the necessary electoral votes he needs to get re-elected?

Barbara Lagoa has the edge.   As of 9/20/2020, Real Clear Politics  lists Biden 48.6 ahead  to 47.0 for Trump.   So Florida is one state which Trump must pay close attention to.

Do what we need to do — shelter in place for weeks as Gov. Newsom says?

Gov. Newsom says it will be weeks before he modifies CA’s mandatory stay-at-home order.   Government has to do “what we need to do” before relaxing the order. says Newsom.

That’s an awfully nebulous  standard for a CA  Gov.  to use to make decisions that affect 40 million citizens.

Some entities   have pushed back. Police chiefs in Modoc and Humboldt  Counties refuse to enforce CA  Gov. Newsom’s order to close beaches.

Trinity Covenant Church  in Aptos, CA    starts real services  Sunday,May 3 – including celebration of  the Body and Blood of Christ  – in their parking lot instead of their auditorium    Church elders  talked   through issues with  local government officials about their decision.

What do we really  need to do right now?     In my view, we need to  grow  the  economy and socialize  as a society as we largely did.

Remember: The overwhelming evidence   suggests   that the people most susceptible to the virus are the elderly with preexisting medical conditions.   So why target everyone else for confinement?   Because “we need to do it” says Gov. Newsom.

Gov. Newsom’s policy to continue sheltering in place for many more weeks  harms  40 million people in CA.  His policy promotes dependence on government.     Does  Newsom  want more people fleeing CA for a place in some state  where they can have a business rather than rely on welfare?  Over 1/3 of all persons on welfare already reside in CA.   Roughly 13.3% of CA residents live in poverty.

And, why did  CA Gov.  Newsom buy all those masks from China  –whose politicians exported chronovirus to 192 countries?

People have the right to petition their government  for redress of grievances — on the beach and in the public square. The “experts” were and are wrong about number of supposed deaths in USA (2 million was estimate originally). Businesses have seen their livlihoods  collapse as  their income turn to zero.

CA hospitals are relatively empty and the back up places for additional hospital care are being put to other uses in Santa Cruz, CA.  Across the USA hospitals are closing  and   going broke as they have not been able to do elective surguries and their beds are largely empty.

It’s time now  that the  health care “experts” (Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx)   took a back seat to “what to do now” to open up the economy and let people lead lives as close to normal as possible.

The .45 caliber divorce Islam style: brother executes sister

divorce Muslim style
Islam divorce  by .45 caliber gun

The .45 caliber divorce,  Islam  style:  brother executes his sister. Because she married a Christian.

Sitting around the kitchen table, a  Pakistani man  executed his sister with a bullet to the head.  Why?  Because she  had married a Christian man.

Therefore,  the Pakistani  had “no choice” but to kill her because of her shameful act that brought dishonor on her family.

While his younger sister, Tasleem, was sitting in their kitchen with their mother and sister, Mubeen Rajhu shot her in the head at their home in Lahore this past August.

Eighteen-year-old Tasleem had married a Christian man named Jehangir.  Jehangir had  agreed to convert to Islam to please her family.

Conversion  to Islam was not enough  to stop her brother from killing her.

Life is an ultra-marathon. To run fast run alone, to run far run together? Yep.

to run fast run alone. to run far run together
Life is an ultra- marathon.

Life is an ultra-marathon.

To run fast run alone, to run far run together. Yep.

You may not run the Badwater race in California. That is one brutal ultra marathon!

Badwater elevation
Badwater elevation

You do have your own  marathon to run.  Your life.

And  it’s best to  keep moving!

And it’s best to do it together!

Sometimes we all feel weary and alone. Very alone.  And very weary.

weary
Weary and alone at times ?

You may  be weary from the  care of  a chronically ill spouse or relative.

weary from care
weary from the care of  a loved one?

Or you may feel weary because a situation seems stuck.  And, things just don’t seem to change.

weary and stuck
weary and stuck in a situation?

Some people   use exercise gyms to get out of feeling weary.

An hour  of exercise bike, weights and stretching can remove the feeling of weariness.  For some, exercise helps to get the body ‘moving’.  Consider joining  gym for regular exercise.

Another way to exercise  — a  gentle way  –can be through gardening.   Aptos Community Garden has a few plots available. Call 831 688-5727 extension 2 and leave your name and telephone number.

Community gardening allows you to meet and connect with others.  And, you can  grow beautiful  flowers and vegetables.

We have families — biological and by groups we associate with by choice — where we can concretely practice mutual love  and support for one another.

You are not alone.

Remember those who came before you.   There are those who came before you, ones who have run the race.

Christians refer to those who came before them as the “great host of witnesses”  of those who came before.  That host of witnesses  includes Abraham who believed by faith and had a son with Sarah in their old age.  David. Solomon. Elizabeth cousin of Mary the mother of Jesus. St. Augustine, Martin Luther.Dorothy Day. And others.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin what so easily entangles  us. .  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”  Hebrews 12:1

Remember the cloud of witnesses which  came before you, the spiritual giants who inspire you.

Who are the’giants’ in your life, the persons who have inspired and continue to inspire  you?

A book by  Malcolm Muggeridge titled A  Third Testament explores the spiritual wanderings of St. Augustine, Blake, Pascal, Kierkegaard, Tolstoy and Bonhoeffer.

That and other Christian books about “the host of witnesses”  are available at The Word Shop,  adbooks@aol.com  831 688 6607.

Through books you can  explore the spiritual wanderings of others who have gone before you.

Yes, your life is an ultra-marathon.  And to run far  — run it together.

One place to ‘keep moving’ and  practice mutual love  for one another is through a Christian community. And one such community is:
