APPLE An apple a day... A Chicken McNugget a day... An illegal act by Obama each day ... keeps the Public at bay!
written by Aptos Psychologist
It’s time to confront President Obama’s illegal acts. And we can!

Remember that adage? ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’? Obama transmogrifies it into,

‘A Chicken McNugget a day keeps the the school food police away’. CHICKEN An apple a day... A Chicken McNugget a day... An illegal act by Obama each day ... keeps the Public at bay!

Citing ‘nutritional concerns,’
South Carolina school authorities replaced a child’s homemade turkey and cheese sandwich with fried Chicken McNuggets from the school cafeteria.

But what’s in Chicken McNuggets? What percent protein? How much additives?
Nobody knows.

Checking McDonald’s web site, there is no information listed as to percent of protein in a Chicken McNuggets. Further, there’s zip info as to percent of added water, sodium phosphates, sugar, wheat and other added ingredients.

So, you got to eat it — but you can’t know what’s in it that you are eating. Is that Obama-Care sense? Yes. There are no U.S. standards as to percent protein in a Chicken McNugget or how much X, Y or Z can be added.

As to other countries: Canada requires that the equivalent of a chicken McNuggets have no less than 12% meat protein when cooked. And, no more than .5% phosphate salts can be added to a Canadian McNuggets

With Obama’s new food standards for schools in place, children are required to eat food such as McNuggets which are of unknown, questionable nutritional value.

Looking at Obama’s actions and not his words, Obama’s motto can be phrased,

‘An illegal act a day keeps the ….. Republicans … Conservatives … Public at bay’.

Obama’s illegal acts include:

On Jan. 4, 2012, without the advise and consent of Congress (congress was in session), President Obama made 4 appointments. Those four appointments by Obama were illegal acts.

In violation of current law — the Religious Freedom Restoration Act signed by Bill Clinton in 1993 — and the Bill of Rights, this last week Obama mandated that religious organizations provide contraceptives without regard to their religious beliefs and practices. Then Obama amended the mandate to require that private insurance companies provide contraceptives for free. Which means that the religious organizations must pay higher premiums.

One hundred years ago, the Girl Scouts of America was founded.
And there will be much celebration of this organization rated 8th out of 100+ non-profit organizations.

GIRL SCOUTS An apple a day... A Chicken McNugget a day... An illegal act by Obama each day ... keeps the Public at bay!

be prepared!

Both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts have the same motto:
Be prepared! And so must all Americans.

Be prepared. Expect that President Obama will commit more illegal acts.

And we must take appropriate, legal actions. One illegal act after another erodes our liberties and freedoms. The Democrat controlled Senate has not passed a budget in three years. That means that the Senate has not done its job.

So, write your congress and complain. Nag them!

Back to An Apple a Day that Keeps the Doctor Away:
APPLE1 An apple a day... A Chicken McNugget a day... An illegal act by Obama each day ... keeps the Public at bay!

Doctors need to be paid appropriately. And our MD doctors are lowly paid by the federal government.

In our area –Santa Cruz County and Monterey County, California — Democrat Sam Farr has failed for 20 years to get appropriate payment for “rural” doctors.

Yet Santa Cruz as a City is rated as one of the most attractive in the nation as artistic and beautiful. Which it is. And Sam Farr for the last three years fully supports Obama-Care. It’s time that California voters in Sana Cruz and Monterey look for better representation. And who might that be?

And what say you? Written by DrCameronJackson@gmail.com

Congressman Sam Farr’s failure to raise $ govt payments to physicians

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

TRY TRY 22 Congressman Sam Farrs failure to raise $ govt payments to physicians

Farr fails to change MD's designation

Congressman Sam Farr has failed to get local MD’s and other health professionals paid equivalent to urban MDs. Sam Farr represents Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.

Is Sam Farr simply ineffective? You decide:

Payment to health providers: Various health professionals (including MD physicians, psychiatrists and psychologists) in Santa Cruz & Monterey Counties are paid much less per patient than physicians in urban areas such as San Jose and near by cities.

So what? It matters because MD’s and other health providers do not want to take on more patients when paid only through federal government. Hence, the pool of doctors and other health providers available for older citizens is shrinking and shrinking.

This has been an on-going problem for years. Repeatedly, Democrat congressman Sam Farr has been asked to get the designation changed so that Santa Cruz, CA and Monterey are not considered ‘rural’.

Congressman Sam Farr has failed — and continues to fail — to get the designation changed.

Back in 2007, Sam Farr said in public meetings that the best way to increase reimbursements for our ‘rural’ medical doctor MDs was to vote in the Democrats.

Well, Sam Farr got what he said was necessary: Since 2008, the Democrats have been in control. And the Democrats have passed just about everything they want.

Despite control by the Democrats, Sam Farr has still never gotten the designation changed so that local MD doctors are paid equivalent to near by urban areas.

So, Sam Farr failed under the Republicans and he has failed under the Democrats to get the designation changed so our MD’s and health professionals are paid equivalent to those in San Jose and urban areas.

How much failure by Sam Farr should voters accept? Enough is enough seems to me.

What say you?

Aptos Psychologist: Obama’s federal agency NOAA which protects whales is no Noah’s Ark …

NOAHS ARKjpg Aptos Psychologist: Obamas federal agency NOAA which protects whales is no Noahs Ark ...

NOAA federal agency that oversees whale protection is no Noah's Ark

Obama’s federal agency NOAA is no Noah’s Ark.

Pronounced like Noah, the federal agency NOAA stands for National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency. NOAA’s funding is authorized by the Department of Commerce.

Per how NOAA recently acts as judge, jury and prosecutor against people using the resources of Monterey Bay — huge fines for jet ski users and criminal charges against a biologist for feeding large fish — it may be the right time that the public jerked NOAA’s funding to a standstill?

Interestingly, Democrat congressman Sam Farr refuses to comment on NOAA and has refused to go on a local radio program, KSCO 1080 radio, to discuss NOAA.

Sam Farr is the same Democrat congressman who, when he held four Town Meetings on health care, stated at the beginning that he was there to tell the public that he was going to vote for Obama Care. Sam Farr was not there to listen – he was there to tell the public what he was going to do.

Let’s look at the considerable differences between Noah’s Ark and NOAA’s Mission:

You know the Biblical story: Under God’s direction, Noah built an Ark and put on board two of every kind of animal. When the world flooded, the animals were safe on board the high seas until, finally, a little bird brought back a leaf. The leaf signaled to Noah that land was near and life could go on. And God gave to people the rainbow as a sign that never again would God flood the earth with water.

Today we have NOAA to save the animals, fish, birds and everything from the bottom of the sea all the way to the sun. What a huge charge. And what huge powers turned over to Obama’s political appointees who run NOAA.

Note that NOAA operates under the Commerce Department.
According to the 1942 Supreme Court case of Wickard v Filburn, the Commerce Department can set quotas forbidding a farmer to grow wheat used for his own consumption.

It is that same Supreme Case – Wickard v Filburn — that President Obama will use to defend Obama-Care’s mandate that all individuals must purchase health insurance.

This is the Mission Statement listed on NOAA’s website:
“NOAA’s mission is to understand and predict changes in the Earth’s environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and to conserve and manage our coastal and marine resources.”

Below is information from the NOAA web site stating that NOAA has fined boat owners for exceeding 10 MPH rule NOAA imposed.

How best to rein in NOAA’s power? Cut off their funding. Re-write their Mission statement.

Santa Cruz and Monterey need a Citizen Patriot to replace Democrat Sam Farr. Who might be that citizen patriot? Send suggestions to: DrCameronJackson@gmail.com

Three vessels charged with violating Right Whale ship strike reduction rule pay penalties
Speed restrictions in seasonal management areas reduce risk of death to endangered whales
January 10, 2012

Right whales
Three large commercial vessels who were assessed civil penalties this fall for violating seasonal speed limits designed to protect one of the most endangered whale species in the world have paid their penalties in full. Cases against six other vessels for the same offense are still open.
The ship strike reduction rule, enacted in December 2008, restricts vessels of 65 feet or greater to speeds of 10 knots or less in seasonal management areas along the East Coast to reduce the chances of North Atlantic right whales being injured or killed by ships.
Notices of Violation and Assessment (NOVAs) were issued Nov. 21 by the NOAA Office of General Counsel’s enforcement section to owners and operators of vessels that allegedly traveled multiple times through the seasonal management areas at speeds well in excess of the 10 knots allowed under the regulations.
The alleged violations occurred between November 2009 and January 2011 outside of New York City; Charleston, S.C.; Brunswick, King’s Bay and Savannah, Ga.; and Mayport, Fla.
One vessel was charged with 16 counts of speeding. Vessels’ documented speeds ranged from 13 to 18 knots, and the vessels traveled these speeds for as many as 26 nautical miles.

Right whale and calf
Each count in the NOVAs was assessed at $5,750, resulting in total penalty assessments ranging from $11,500 to $92,000. None of the vessels receiving NOVAs had prior violations.
The owners and operators had 30 days to respond either by paying the penalty, seeking to have it modified, or requesting a hearing.
Compliance with this rule is critically important for preventing right whale extinction. Ship strikes are the leading source of human-caused mortality for right whales, and together with entanglements in nets, are slowing the recovery of this critically endangered species.
Biologists believe that there are as few as 396 right whales left in the North Atlantic Ocean. Right whales are protected by the Endangered Species Act of 1973 and the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. The death of even one whale can be devastating to the right whale population. NOAA estimates that a female right whale will need to give birth to four healthy calves over her lifetime to successfully replace herself within the population.
The mission of NOAA’s Office of Law Enforcement is to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations enacted to conserve and protect our nation’s marine resources. To report a suspectedF violation, contact Enforcement’s national hotline at 1-800-853-1964.

Aptos Psychologist: NOAA & citizens — Govt overreaches and congressman Sam Farr from CA silent on NOAA fines for feeding whales and using jet skis in Monterey Bay

WHALES Aptos Psychologist: NOAA & citizens Govt overreaches and congressman Sam Farr from CA silent on NOAA fines for feeding whales and using jet skis in Monterey Bay

Sam Farr congresman from CA has no comment re NOAA fines for biologist and jet ski use to save surfers

Federal agency National Oceanographic & Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) recently pressed criminal charges and has levied huge fines against a nationally known biologist for feeding large fish.

Also, NOAA recently levied enormous fines — which keep going up — against two persons using jet skis to save surfers in Monterey Bay.

The overall issue is that a federal agency (NOAA) under Obama and with the blessing of local congressman Sam Farr now controls access of the public to use of Monterey Bay. Do you accept this control?

Because the jet ski users are contesting the charges, NOAA’s response has been to double and triple the fines. Per discussion by Dr. Bill on radio 1080, NOAA is acting as judge, jury and prosecutor and not allowing any defense.

Sam Farr, congressman for the Monterey and Santa Cruz, CA area, refused to come on a local radio show Saturday, Jan. 14 and discuss his views of NOAA and the legal charges against people using the Monterey Bay for work and play. Sam Farr’s office likewise did not contact the radio station. Farr’s offices were contacted repeatedly without success.

“Put a sign on your car, in your window and on a telephone pole telling Sam Farr what you want” says Dr. Bill on 1080 Radio. “Or just write, Sam Farr — Farr Out!”

NOAA’s senior positions are filled with political appointees who push for the political agenda of the current administration. Dr. Bill refers to NOAA as the “green Gestapo”.

Per the 1080 radio show Jan. 11, 2012 NOAA spent millions of Obama Stimulus money on a new building close to the beach at Asilomar CA state park in Monterey, CA. NOAA will not permit any non-native plants in the area and has built a building which, to put it mildly from the comments of listeners to the raido show, does not blend into the environment. Check out the NOAA building next time you drive along the Asilomar state beach beach in Monterey.

For more information on NOAA, congressman Sam Farr’s lack of response to air his views on NOAA and current fining of the biologist and jet ski users contact

Aptos psychologist: Will Sam Farr tear up his socialist card?

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

SOCIALISM Aptos psychologist: Will Sam Farr tear up his socialist card?

Will Rep. Sam Farr tear up his socialist card?

Sam Farr is one of seventy plus socialists elected to the United States Congress.  Below is a letter to Sam from a citizen in his district:

Sam, tear up your socialist card.  Our nation is at a crossroads.  The 2012 elections will be about ideology.   Will American slide further into socialism?     Or will America return to  the conservative values of our Founding Fathers and Mothers?

Socialists  typically  believes that government is the solution, that everything good comes from government and that all belongs to government who  dispenses it wisely. Socialists believe that government creates jobs and wealth.

Conservatives believes in limited government, that federalism rightly limits the powers of each branch of government,  and that under God individuals have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — with the least interference as possible from government.

Sam,  please support and vote for fiscal responsibility.

Just as families must live within their means, so too  must nations.  Look at Greece.

If a family overspends by $5,000 it cannot start next year’s budget with an increase of 5 K.  The same  goes  for nations.  Therefore Sam ,  please vote to stop all automatic government increases.

All families must live on a budget.  So must America.  Yet months and months go by and the Democrats refuse to make a budget.

Sam, Please  change your ways and support and vote for a balanced budget.

When a family’s income drops their expenses too must drop.  The same for nations.  Growth is flat.  We must cut government spending.   How?

Sam, please support and vote for substantial cuts and no increases in taxes.  How?  Read what Paul Ryan wrote as to how to make substantial fiscal changes.  They make sense.

Why wait for the Supreme Court to weigh in on Obama-Care.  De-fund it now. If the government has the power to require every citizen to purchase  X,  then there is no limit to  what the government can require.  That is precisely the path of socialism  that lies ahead.

So, again  I ask  Sam Farr:  Will you tear up your socialist card?  And, join a tea party or start one?  America is at a crossroads, right?

How about a list of all new small businesses in California created with stimulus $? One ice cream store in Santa Cruz is a short list. Is this all Boxer & Sam Farr can offer for new job creation?

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Cameron Jackson DrCameronJackson@gmail.com

Finally in July, 2010 the Obama administration raised the loan guarantee rate for SBA loans from 75% to 90%. And, banks started to make more SBA loans to small business. The The Penny Ice Creamery in Santa Cruz, CA got such a loan. Taxpayer money will pay the bank back 90 percent of the loan if the ice cream store fails. Try out the ice cream and come back to comment. The Penny Icecreamery is located at 913 Ceder Street in Santa Cruz. 831 204-2533. What say you — Is this the way to create jobs?

from the website for The Penny Icecreamery:
“At Penny, she’s making artisanal ice cream from scratch, and the plan is to offer nine different flavors a day. Everything will be local, organic, seasonal, etc. And as you can see from the ice cream photo to the right, there will definitely be some Manresa-esque flairs.

penny icecream How about a list of all new small businesses in California created with stimulus $? One ice cream store in Santa Cruz is a short list. Is this all Boxer & Sam Farr can offer for new job creation?

small ice cream store gets 90% SBA loan

The menu will change very frequently — the Wednesday farmers’ market is a block away — but to give you an idea of the offerings, here’s a current version of the nine flavors, as described by Davis (speaking with a blackberry vanilla popsicle in hand):

1.Tahitian vanilla
2.Dark chocolate sorbet
3.Fresh mint and cocoa nib
4.Coffee toffee
5.Blackberry corn, made with corn grown at Baker’s three-acre farm
6.Caramel
7.Bourbon bacon chocolate
8.Brown butter-spiced pecan with chili spice
9.Raspberry rose sorbet
In support of a Santa Cruz neighbor, Penny will use Verve Coffee for the coffee toffee, the affogatos and other coffee-related items. On the rest of the menu, expect rotating things like the aforementioned popsicle, floats (like a melon sorbet scoop with cucumber granita in a cilantro mint soda), sundaes, malts, tiny toasted cinnamon meringues, and a very intriguing pate de fruit. But again, it will change regularly.

“Another cool tidbit is that Penny is a licensed pasteurizer — one of the few ice cream shops with that distinction in the entire area (Ici in Berkeley is one) — which means they’re really making ice cream from scratch.

So — what do these luscious looking ice cream cones cost?

And does America need jobs created with 90% guaranteed loans? The Housing mess happened in part because the government gave money to put people into houses that they could not afford. Are SBA 90% guaranteed loans part and parcel of the same problem? DrCameronJackson@gmail.com

The gist of what I did hear on KSCO: Sam Farr spoke proudly of ObamaCare. Sam Farr lauded his accomplishments to provide government programs to help people.

I wonder whether Sam Farr makes much attempt to listen to his constituents. I don’t think so. For example, Sam Farr said that — in the last 17 years he has been in office representing Santa Cruz and Monterey — he had never heard a Kay Zwerling editorial.

ksco zwerling Time for all candidates who oppose Democrat incombant Sam Farr, ObamaCare and out of control spending to join forces? Support Republican Candidate Jeff Taylor? Yes and heres why ...

Kay Zwerling's conservative editorials not heard by Sam Farr

Therefore, I don’t think Sam Farr listens to KSCO — one of the few independent radio stations in northern California.

So what did the other candidates say? The other four candidates sounded more similar than different. All four strongly oppose out of control spending. All four discussed ways how to grow the private sector and create private sector jobs.

The one woman, Mary Larkin, says on her website: “… the current administration seems to have our economy on the fast-track towards destruction and none of us can sit idly by any longer.”

As a conservative independent. I am at odds with all of Sam Farr’s comments per the KSCO discussion. And I liked largely everything that the other four candidates said. So how to choose?

Think of the decision how to vote akin to choosing an ice cream. For me, Sam Farr is akin to licorice which I cannot stand. I could never eat a licorice ice cream cone.

On the other hand, I like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and mint. Those voices — a Libertarian, a Green Party a Republican and a write-in — all sound good. I liked what I heard from all of them.

How to choose? Like the two basics — Vanilla and Chocolate — the United States has a two party system.

Though I certainly liked what I heard write-in Ron Kabat say on KSCO, I wish as a Tea Party movement supporter he could support Republican Party candidate Jeff Taylor.

What Ron Kabat says on his website:
“My PROPOSAL –> Members of Congress should voluntarily accept a 15% wage cut until our national deficit begins to decrease for three years AND our national unemployment rate falls to 6%….”

I tried to contact Ron Kabat on his web site but there is no contact form, no email address and and no way to leave a message. That sends a message I dislike — it is hard to connect to someone who wants to represent us.

The votes for Kabat, the Libertarian and the Green Party are great as a Custer’s Last Stand but not likely to remove Sam Farr from office.

Let’s hope we get real change: Repeal ObamaCare. Repeal all the bail outs. Cut the deficit. Grow the private sector. Cut taxes. Promote small business. Cut bureaucracy and red tape.

To remove Sam Farr from office, a Democrat and member of the American Socialist Party, - can third party candidates and Tea Party movement supporters agree on what they have in common? Can they support one candidate who can defeat the Democrat “achievements” of the last two years?

What do you say? How best to vote out a Democratic incumbent who has been in office the last 17 years? Let’s get all the third party and Tea Party candidates to join in support of one candidate: Jeff Taylor.

So how is the write-in in Alaska doing? Sarah Palin calls it Operation Chaos.

KFQD 750 AM radio host Dan Fagan is calling the plan an act of “civil disobedience” to protest what he views is an illegal effort by the state to aid Murkowski’s write-in campaign. Fagan supports Republican nominee Joe Miller, a tea party candidate who beat Murkowski in a primary upset earlier this year.

A website devoted to promoting Sarah Palin, another Miller backer, dubs the effort Operation Alaska Chaos.

The state Republican and Democratic parties went to court to stop the state from providing voters at polling stations with a list of write-in candidates’ names. The parties and other voting-rights advocates argue that the list provides Murkowski with an unfair advantage and violates state law.

That case remains active in the Alaska court system, with the state Supreme Court scheduled to hear oral arguments on Friday.

But Fagan isn’t waiting for a last-minute decision. The host hopes that his effort will diminish any advantage Murkowski could receive via the state-sanctioned write-in list, by crowding the list with 100 or so names of new write-in candidates who filed before Thursday’s deadline.

IS Sam Farr another “elite” like Obama? Time to reject and replace ObamaCare? Time to vote “elites” out of office?

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Is Sam Farr, Congressman for the 17th District, another political “elite” like Obama – who knows best what’s good for you? Is Sam Farr in or out of sync with your American values?

Actions speak louder than words at times.
Let’s look at Sam Farr’s actions over his lifetime. Is Sam Farr another “elite”?

Look at Sam’s background, education, job history and experience.

Where did Sam Farr grow up and where does he live? Sam Farr grew up and lives in Carmel, California. Carmel is the most expensive, “old money” area in the 17th district. Yes, there are two Safeways in the Carmel Valley area. Who does Sam Farr rub shoulders with living in Carmel, CA? Does he hear the “pop, pop, pop” sounds of gun shots that are frequently heard in Salinas, CA? What has Sam Farr done to reduce gang violence?

How was Sam Farr educated? No public school experience for Sam Farr. No rubbing shoulders with all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds. No military experience where one must deal with all sorts of people. Sam Farr attended only private universities, i.e., Santa Clara University and Monterey Institute of International Studies.

3) How broad is Sam Farr’s job history? Sam Farr has only worked for the government. After 2 years in the Peace Corp, Sam Farr went to work in Sacramento, CA. Connected through his father, Sam Farr worked 10 years doing budget work for the California Assembly. For the last 17 years Sam Farr has represented the Santa Cruz – Monterey area for the 17th District.

If you only know government then the government is the best and only solution for all problems. And that appears to be Sam Far’s modus operandi.

4) What are Sam Farr’s accomplishments in 17 years as a Congressman? Per Wikipedia, thanks to Sam Farr there now is an ocean advisor in the President’s cabinet. That accomplishment happened in 2008.

Yes, taking care of our oceans and Mother Earth is important. Is it best done by more government bureaucracy? Sam Farr thinks so.

Oct. 8, 2009 Peggy Noonon writes Revolt of the Accountants, a perceptive article about elites and why Americans increasingly dislike – or hate — elites. Read below:

written by Peggy Noonon in Wall Street Journal, Oct. 8, 2010
“If you write a column, you get a lot of email. Sometimes, especially in a political season, it’s possible to discern from it certain emerging themes—the comeback of old convictions, for instance, or the rise of new concerns. Let me tell you something I’m hearing, in different ways and different words. The coming rebellion in the voting booth is not only about the economic impact of spending, debt and deficits on America’s future. It’s also to some degree about the feared impact of all those things on the character of the American people. There is a real fear that government, with all its layers, its growth, its size, its imperviousness, is changing, or has changed, who we are. And that if we lose who we are, as Americans, we lose everything.

This is part of what’s driving the sense of political urgency this year, especially within precincts of the tea party.

The most vivid illustration of the fear comes, actually, from another country, Greece, and is brilliantly limned by Michael Lewis in October’s Vanity Fair. In “Beware of Greeks Bearing Bonds,” he outlines Greece’s economic catastrophe. It is a bankrupt nation, its debt, or rather the amount of debt that has so far been unearthed and revealed, coming to “more than a quarter-million dollars for every working Greek.” Over decades the Greeks turned their government “into a piñata stuffed with fantastic sums” and gave “as many citizens as possible a whack at it.” The average Greek government job pays almost three times as much as the average private-sector job. The retirement age for “arduous” jobs, including hairdressers, radio announcers and musicians, is 55 for men and 50 for women. After that, a generous pension. The tax system has disintegrated. It is a welfare state with a cash economy.

Much of this is well known, though it is beautifully stated. But all of it, Mr. Lewis asserts, has badly damaged the Greek character. “It is simply assumed . . . that anyone who is working for the government is meant to be bribed. . . . Government officials are assumed to steal.” Tax fraud is rampant. Everyone cheats. “It’s become a cultural trait,” a tax collector tells him.

Mr. Lewis: “The Greek state was not just corrupt but also corrupting. Once you saw how it worked you could understand a phenomenon which otherwise made no sense at all: the difficulty Greek people have saying a kind word about one another. . . . Everyone is pretty sure everyone is cheating on his taxes, or bribing politicians, or taking bribes, or lying about the value of his real estate. And this total absence of faith in one another is self-reinforcing. The epidemic of lying and cheating and stealing makes any sort of civic life impossible.”

Thus can great nations, great cultures, disintegrate, break into little pieces that no longer cohere into a whole.

And what I get from my mail is a kind of soft echo of this. America is not Greece and knows it’s not Greece, but there is a growing sense—I should say fear—that the weighty, mighty, imposing American government itself, whether it meant to or not, has for years been contributing to American behaviors that are neither culturally helpful nor, as we now all say, sustainable: a growing sense of entitlement, of dependency, of resentment and distrust, and an increasing suspicion that everyone else is gaming the system. “I got mine, you get yours.”

People, as we know, are imperfect. Governments, composed top to bottom of imperfect people wielding power, are very imperfect. There are of course a million examples, big and small, of how governments can damage the actual nature and character of the citizenry, and only because there was just a commercial on TV telling me to gamble will I mention the famous case of the state lotteries. Give government the right to reap revenues from the public desire to gamble, and you’ll soon have government doing something your humble local bookie never had the temerity to try: convince the people that gambling is a moral good. They promote it insistently on local television, undermining any remaining reserve among our citizens not to play the numbers, not to develop what can become an addiction. Our state government daily promotes what for 2,000 years was understood to be a vice. No bookie ever committed a crime that big.

Government not only can change the national character, it can bizarrely channel national energy. And this is another theme in my mailbox, the rebellion against what government increasingly forces us to become: a nation of accountants.

No matter what level of life in which you operate, you are likely overwhelmed by forms, by a blizzard of regulations, rules, new laws. This is not new, it’s just always getting worse. Priests are forced to be accountants now, and army officers, and dentists. The single most onerous part of ObamaCare is the tax change whereby spending $600 on goods or services will require a 1099 form. Economists will tell you of the financial cost of this, but I would argue that Paperwork Nation is utterly at odds with the American character.

Because Americans weren’t born to be accountants. It’s not in our DNA! We’re supposed to be building the Empire State Building. We were meant, to be romantic about it, and why not, to be a pioneer people, to push on, invent electricity, shoot the bear, bootleg the beer, write the novel, create, reform and modernize great industries. We weren’t meant to be neat and tidy record keepers. We weren’t meant to wear green eyeshades. We looked better in a coonskin cap!

There is I think a powerful rebellion against all this. It isn’t a new rebellion—it was part of Goldwaterism, and Reaganism—but it’s rising again.

For those who wonder why so many people have come to hate, or let me change it to profoundly dislike, “the elites,” especially the political elite, here is one reason: It is because they have armies of accountants to do this work for them. Those in power institute the regulations and rules, and then hire people to protect them from the burdens and demands of their legislation. There is no congressman passing tax law who doesn’t have staffers in his office taking care of his own financial life and who will not, when he moves down the street into the lobbying firm, have an army of accountants to protect him there.

Washington is now to some degree the focus of the same sort of profound resentment that Hollywood liberals inspired when they really mattered, or seemed really powerful. For decades they made films that were not helpful to our culture or society, that were full of violence and sick imagery. But they often brought their own children up more or less protected from the effects of the culture they created. Private schools, nannies, therapists, tutors. They bought their way out of the cultural mayhem to which they’d contributed. Their children were fine. Yours were on their own.

This is part of why people dislike “the elites” and why “the elites,” especially in Washington, must in turn be responsive, come awake, start to notice. People don’t like it when they fear you are subtly, day by day, year by year, changing the personality and character of their nation. They think, “You are ruining our country and insulating yourselves from the ruin. We hate you.” And this is understandable, yes?

Aptos psychologist: Time to say NO to Sam Farr, Obama-Care and the Recovery Act.

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

DrCameronJackson@gmail.com

People like Sam Farr, Rep for the 17th District — per how they vote — believe that government can do a better job making decisions for you than you can. Given the last 18 months of government by Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Sam Farr –now is the time to say, “Stop!”

That view — that people should accept what Representatives tell them — is what I took away from listening to Sam Farr during the Health Care debates.

Now Sam Farr says that the Recovery Act has helped. The following is from a recent meeting in San Juan Bautista. Many people said No! to Sam Farr. For more, read the following:

“Calling San Benito County and the tri-county area one of the country’s best areas for agricultural business, Congressman Sam Farr told a capacity crowd of more than 200 people inside the San Juan Bautista Community Center Hall on Tuesday night the county needs to focus on what it does best – produce agriculture.

“We are the Silicon Valley of agriculture,” Farr said.

In the third of four town hall meetings throughout the Central Coast area – the only one in San Benito County – Farr spoke and answered questions for nearly two-and-a-half hours as attendees applauded and booed.

Farr, a Democrat from Carmel, is up for reelection in November and has been the District 17 representative for 17 years. District 17 includes Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties. He is being challenged by Republican Jeff Taylor.

In Farr’s opening 30-minute speech he mentioned growing up in the area and traveling to San Benito County to eat dinner and look at the scenery.

“I say this all the time – there is no place in the world, no place in the United States where you have as much diversity in the land,” Farr said. “We sell scenery.”

A part of that scenery is the Pinnacles National Monument, which Farr hopes to change to a national park soon.

“This missing book on geology is Pinnacles National Monument,” he said. “The name change won’t change anything but give it more recognition.”

A large portion of his speech focused on the success of the county and area – mostly the agriculture and schooling. He said there should be a focus on bringing higher-end agricultural jobs to the county.

“The ag that is here is the brain trust for the rest of the agriculture throughout the country,” Farr said. “You always have to sell it and I’m going to be your national campaign. This is an area that we all know and cherish.”

Farr also mentioned that the area has more affordable school institutions than areas such as New York and Boston.

“It doesn’t matter what type of grades you get if you can’t afford the school,” Farr said.

Contention came from the crowd when Farr mentioned the recovery act and the belief that officials needed to “infuse massive amounts of capital” back into the country. Many crowd members shook their heads. Some simply said no.

Questions focused on the health care bill, employment, the economy and Clear Creek Management Area. The group was just about divided in half from those who supported Farr and those who opposed him. Waiting outside were members of the Santa Cruz Tea Party and the Republican Party.

The groups were passing out the literature of Meg Whitman and held signs that said “vote out socialist Sam Farr” and “more freedom and less government.”

See the full story in the Pinnacle on Friday.

Dear Rep. Sam Farr: Turning over 1/6th of the economy to BIG government is not “change” we want.

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Dear House Representative Sam Farr,

health care rally 150x150 Dear Rep. Sam Farr: Turning over 1/6th of the economy to BIG government is not change we want.

Health Care Rally

I listened to the Town Meetings which  you held.  You were adamantly for a  government option, Single Payer plan.  You did not listen to the folks who want to keep their own health plan and  do not want more government control.  You kept saying “oh, you can keep your plan …”

But that is pie in the sky if the private sector is driven out of business by the federal government.   You know  what happened with Flood Insurance;  no  private company will ensure for floods in Santa Cruz   as the federal government drove out all competition.

Consider the very low  government rates paid  to  psychologists: As a licensed California psychologist I know that the rates  paid by the government  for Medical/ Medicare patients are ridiculously low — about 1/3 of what most psychologists charge.  And there is all that paperwork or computer forms to be filled out. In Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, less than 5 psychologists out of more than 100+  are willing to take Medical.     Frankly, I prefer to provide pro bono services — free services — than deal with the government.

I agree with you Mr. Farr that we do  need health care reform. But I disagree with you as to how to do it.  The ideas listed below are ones that lots of people have suggested.

It does not make sense to turn control of 1/6 th of the economy —- the health care sector –over to  the federal government. This is not healthy change that We the People want.

There are lots of small changes in health care  that can be done one by one instead of by BIG government fiat.  The overriding goal should be to put power back in the hands of individuals and families to make decisions for themselves.  Here’s how:

  • Health care savings accounts. Big changes  can b e achieved  in small steps. First and foremost, put control of health care dollars in the hands of employees — rather than under the control of  employers .  With health care savings accounts individuals and families  can decide what they need. And buy only what they want.
  • Portability.  Let  health care plans follow employees  from job to job.
  • Encourage competition to reduce price. Just like buying oranges from Florida in Nebraska, let  people shop for health insurance across state lines.
  • Prior existing conditions.  Let  each state create their own pool and finance it through a combination of state and federal money.
  • Reform Medicare so that providers (doctors, psychologists, speech pathologists) are willing to work for the rates offered and  allow them to  “package”  services to  encourage  preventative care.Once Medicare is reformed then incrementally expand coverage to various groups that are not covered.  Train more doctors and nurses ahead of time before expanding the system. Eliminate fraud.
  • Reduce unnecessary procedures. Cap the amount of money that anyone can get in a  malpractice suit.   Yes, tort reform!   Funny how neither the House or Seanate bills contained such a simple yet powerful solution.  A number of states have already implemented it — including California.

These changes can be done  one   at  at a time.  Get agreement by both parties.  Discuss issues in a transparent manner — not behind closed doors.

What you,  Nancy Pelosi   and others  are doing is trying to do is grab control for the sake of control  Health care “reform” is a means to an end — government control.

Some   Democrats recently  bowed out months before the 2010 elections.  Maybe, after 20+ years on the job it is time for you to rest?     Cameron Jackson   DrCameronJackson@gmail.com
