Steve Martin is so passionate about art he has written a novel about it.
But even his expertise – and his experience playing Inspector Clouseau – weren’t enough to help him realize a painting which sat in his personal collection for nearly two years was actually a fake.
It turns out a painting Mr Martin bought in 2004 – supposedly by the modernist painter Heinrich Campendock – was forged by a criminal gang.
