A 49-count indictment has been filed against the founders of Angel Food Ministries (AFM), a former food assistance ministry. Stories indicate that those indicted include Linda and Joe Wingo, Bill Rankn, Linda Wingo and Sheila M. Poole spole@ajc,com
Seventeen years ago the ministry was started by Joe and Linda Wingo. Food was bought in bulk, re-packaged and sold through churches. Eventually, over 500,000 persons in 45 states received food from AFM. In 2008, AFM was held out as a fine example of government working together with faith-based ministries.
The indictment claims they stole nearly $1.5 million dollars from the ministry and with it bought clothes, shoes, jewelry, sporting goods, a classic car. They even put a down payment for a jet aircraft.
Angel Food Ministries allegedly told vendors to charge AFM more on invoices than what the ministry actually owed. When AFM paid the amount on the invoice, the vendors would then send “kickback†checks containing the extra money to the defendants instead of the ministry. Vendors were allegedly told they could lose the ministry’s business if they didn’t comply.

And the vendors are just as guilty. Not one of them blew the whistle?
