BERKELEY — A former UC Berkeley administrator — who was rehired by the university despite a previous felony embezzlement conviction — has been charged with stealing about $90,000 of public funds to pay for her children’s private-school tuition  at Ecole Bilinque de Berkeley  and other expenses.

Sonia Walters, who stole 90 K from UC Berkeley had a prior conviction from Hartford Financial. No criminal background check was performed when promoted by public health department. Former Dean of Public Health Stephen Shortell, whose signature she photocopied, has resigned as administrator and the administrator directly in charge, Denise Harter, has resigned.

If only the VA was as sensitive to public ire?
