Firenze Sage: Asp to Boston saga [MI5, job offer Adebolajo]
MI5 asked Woolwich murder suspect Michael Adebolajo if he wanted to work for them about six months before the killing, a childhood friend has said.
Abu Nusaybah told BBC Newsnight his friend – one of two men arrested after Drummer Lee Rigby’s murder in south-east London on Wednesday – had rejected the approach from the security service.
The BBC could not obtain any confirmation from Whitehall sources. Â More information

Firenze Sage: the law is an ass, an idiot [parking tickets, torched cars]
In Sweden  police don’t do anything to prevent cars from being torched by “youths”  Here’s  a hint, the “youths†aren’t named Erik or Gustav.  The parking regulations are strictly enforced.
So we have this absurd situation:
Early Wednesday, while documenting the destruction after a night of rioting in the Stockholm suburb of Alby, a reporter from Fria Tider observed a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket for a burnt-out Ford.
When questioned, the officer explained that the ticket was issued because the vehicle lacked a tag showing its time of arrival.
The fact that the vehicle had been effectively destroyed – its windshield smashed and the interior heavily damaged by fire – was irrelevant according to the meter maid, who asked Fria Tider’s photographer to destroy the photos he had taken.  more information

Firenze Sage: Poor Pussy [Riot punk group]
MOSCOW–A Russian court has denied parole to a member of the Pussy Riot punk group.
In its ruling Thursday, the court accepted a claim by prosecutors that Maria Alekhina had systematically disobeyed prison authorities and failed to repent for her crime, Russian media reported.
Alekhina went on a hunger strike Wednesday after being barred from the court hearing in Perm province, and she ordered her defense not to participate.
Band members Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich gained worldwide notoriety last year when a Moscow court jailed them for two years for conducting a punk protest in Moscow’s main cathedral. Â More Information

Firenze Sage: Mr. Checkpoint [drunk driving & social media]
As Memorial Day weekend gets underway, law enforcement is out in full force to crack down on drunk driving.
But SDSU grad Sennett Devermont, better known as “MrCheckpoint,” is also working overtime, publicizing through social media the locations and times of DUI checkpoints throughout San Diego and the rest of Southern California, including Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles counties.
Devermont uses Twitter, Facebook, his own website and text messages to get the word out to his tens of thousands of followers.

John Riehl, a senior sewage plant operator and 34-year Detroit employee, is one of the four. The cost fell within continuing education guidelines set by the legislature, he said.
“It’s one of these things we trustees must do to stay on top of the field,” Riehl said. “It’s important that we participate in these conferences. The stakes are too high.” Â More information.Â

Firenze Sage: Midnight terror recon [Boston water supply]
BELCHERTOWN (CBS) – Shortly after midnight Tuesday, seven people were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir.
State Police say the five men and two women are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, and “cited their education and career interests†for being in the area. The men told police they were chemical engineers and recent college graduates.
The Quabbin, in Belchertown, is one of the country’s largest man-made public water supplies. Boston’s drinking water comes from the Quabbin and the Wachusett Reservoirs.
State Police say there were no warrants or advisories on any of the individuals and “there was no evidence that the seven were committing any crime beyond the trespassing.â€
