Chronovirus.  Life or death depends on which USA state you live in ? That’s what the ‘data’ suggest.
So what does it matter if you live in a a ‘red’ Republican USA state compared with a ‘blue’ Democrat state?  Data suggests that where you live will affect whether you live or die from the chronovirus.
You are three times more likely to die from chronovirus if you live in a USA state run by Democrats than if you live in a USA state run by Republicans. That is what the data say. Why?
That’s an awfully nebulous  standard for a CA  Gov.  to use to make decisions that affect 40 million citizens.
Some entities   have pushed back. Police chiefs in Modoc and Humboldt Counties refuse to enforce CA Gov. Newsom’s order to close beaches.
Trinity Covenant Church  in Aptos, CA  starts real services Sunday,May 3 – including celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ – in their parking lot instead of their auditorium  Church elders talked  through issues with local government officials about their decision.
What do we really  need to do right now?   In my view, we need to grow  the  economy and socialize  as a society as we largely did.
Remember: The overwhelming evidence  suggests   that the people most susceptible to the virus are the elderly with preexisting medical conditions.  So why target everyone else for confinement?  Because “we need to do it†says Gov. Newsom.
Gov. Newsom’s policy to continue sheltering in place for many more weeks harms 40 million people in CA. His policy promotes dependence on government.   Does Newsom want more people fleeing CA for a place in some state where they can have a business rather than rely on welfare? Over 1/3 of all persons on welfare already reside in CA.  Roughly 13.3% of CA residents live in poverty.
And, why did CA Gov. Newsom buy all those masks from China –whose politicians exported chronovirus to 192 countries?
People have the right to petition their government for redress of grievances — on the beach and in the public square. The “experts” were and are wrong about number of supposed deaths in USA (2 million was estimate originally). Businesses have seen their livlihoods collapse as their income turn to zero.
CA hospitals are relatively empty and the back up places for additional hospital care are being put to other uses in Santa Cruz, CA. Across the USA hospitals are closing and  going broke as they have not been able to do elective surguries and their beds are largely empty.
It’s time now that the health care “experts” (Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx)  took a back seat to “what to do now” to open up the economy and let people lead lives as close to normal as possible.

 Stephen Kessler writing 4/1/2020 in the Santa Cruz Sentinel Opinion page wonders why  God permits the  coronavirus pandemic   when it was  man’s actions – specific actions  by China – that did the dirty deeds.
China   permits ‘wet markets’ & thus the spread  of the  virus  from bats or pangolins to humans.   China’s  suppression of information about the virus and manipulation of the World Health Organization are well documented. Listen daily  to Trump’s  fume on that topic. Or read the WSJ  4/11/2020.   It was the Chinese  government  not the  Chinese people who brought  this scrooge on humanity. That CA gets so many visitors from China and Asia may be one  silver lining to the pandemic.  It appears that   CA  got inoculated early on in Dec. and hence CA’s much lower rates of infection. Thus, say ‘thanks….’ to the next Asian American you meet!

Tom Hogan, a member of the parish, spoke at Resurrection Church 3/23/2000 on Why Now and How the Remodel of Markey Community Center will proceed. Tom Hogan is on the Steering Committee guiding the remodel effort. He detailed the necessary safety issues which must be addressed.
The hub for Resurrection Church — their community center — requires extensive changes to make it safe for volunteers, staff and the persons served. Resurrection Church provides many ministries to youth, seniors and vulnerable persons.
One vulnerable person served: Many non-profit organizations including Boy Scouts use the Community Center to provides services used by the Aptosian community. Click Here for a brief video of a Boy Scout project located on Resurrection’s grounds which, when the video was taken, provides temporary shelter for a homeless person.
Why is the proposed remodel of Resurrection Church’s community center so expensive?  Safety is the prime reason for the expensive remodel: the expected cost  $5.5 MILLION.
Safety issues:  Resurrection Church’s community center is a 55 year old building, separate from the church proper, which has asbestos in the walls and ceiling and paint with lead in it on the walls. The building floods on occasion due to stormy weather. Recently, a large tree fell one corner of Markey Community Center, disabling the Center for a few days and ‘yellow tagging’ Resurrection Church’s children’s playground which is currently not safe to use.  Volunteers and staff need to be able to exit safely should there be an emergency such a as a dangerous person confronting them. them. Federal OSHA law requires exit routes be mantaotry. The ceiling requires a sprinkler system. The bathrooms need to meet health codes and must be safe for persons in wheel chairs.

Identify prospects who can make large Leader Gifts.  So far, parishioners have given large and smaller gifts totaling $1 MILLION of the $5.5 needed. About 1/2 the Goal towards Leader Gifts has been met. Â
 Identify prospects for Foundation Grants. This is ongoing. As of 3/15/2000 no Foundations have said Yes.
Identify prospects for Community (business) Gifts.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic Resurrection Church was required by the Diocese to cancel  the meeting for Volunteers scheduled for today 3/14/2000.  Also, the Church was required to cancel various fundraisers including Sunday Icecream Social and Eat, Drink and Give.

Overkill reactions n to the corona virus?  Are you hoarding toilet paper? Hiding toilet paper in your safe? Come on now ….
Roughly 40 persons in the USA have died from the Corona virus, about half who died are in one nursing home in Seattle, Washington.
The most vulnerable to succumb to the virus are older persons over 60 with respiratory issues and chronic illnesses. Roughly half of those who have died are from one facility in Seattle, WA.
One local Santa Cruz MD predicts that one MILLION persons in the USA alone will die from the virus. Based on what facts? That’s an overkill reaction.
What does make sense to do:
 regularly and frequently wipe down using disinfectant wipes those  surfaces people frequently touch (door knobs, church pews, tables, railings)
 regularly and frequently wash hands 20 seconds with soap and water
practice ‘social distancing’ so less exposed to coughs
stay home when sick or think you are getting sick
The stock market plunged down to levels where there are good stocks to buy.  One area to consider are consumer goods companies which produce disinfectant wipes. For example, Clorox wipes are made by a CA company with 8,000 employees. Clorox is a a subsidiary of Proctor and Gamble. So — why not invest in America’s need for more disinfectant wipes to keep surfaces clean? The Motley Fool recommended buying Proctor and Gamble today 3/12/2000.
Author Dr. David Schneider, an orthopedic surgeon from Colorado, explained how with socialized medicine, wait times for care “are disastrous.†In Canada, the wait time to see a specialist is two years, and then another two years to get the procedure.
“People in this country would go crazy if you were told you had to wait four months,†he said.
Then he explained how Princess Diana would be alive today, if not for socialized medicine. “Princess Diana was in the car accident in France,†he explained. “They actually don’t have any trauma specialists in France.â€
“For the first hour after that accident, she was still in that tunnel,†he continued. “And after an hour, they took her to a nearby hospital and she was alive for another three hours and they couldn’t control the bleeding from her pulmonary artery.â€
Schneider explained that “there were no trauma-trained people there.

Major face lift and expansion for Resurrection Church’s MARKEY Community Center coming soon? 5 1/2 million needed before construction begins. One million raised so far. MARKEY needs money.
Where is it?  Resurrection Church’s MARKEY Community Center is located in the heart of Aptos, CA. Across from the library with shopping centers on two sides, Due to it’s locaation in Aptos, MARKEY Community Cenrer plays a central role in the life of Aptosia aka Aptos, CA and surrounding areas.
What is MARKEY Community Center (MCC)? It’s where voters go to cast their ballot. It’s the hub for Resurrection Catholic Community, where they live out their Christian faith with programs for Youth, Seniors and vulnerable persons needing showers, socks, food and clothing. Families who cannot pay their electric bill go for help. Families celebrate the lives of their loved ones and the marriages of their children.
Start date for construction? Resurrection’s MARKEY CC planned to start construction last August. But the Catholic Diocese changed the rules of the game and said that all money had to be raised before breaking ground. Opps!
What’s happening now?  Construction will begin at Resurrection’s MARKEY Community Center once they’ve raised $ 5.7 MILLION.   This past year they raised $1 MILLION dollars, all dollars from 60% of the parishioners who give regularly.

James Ryan, the university’s president, posted a statement on Facebook explaining that there were concerns about firing weapons on school property in light of recent school shootings.
He said there were two specific reasons.
“First, to minimize disruptions to classes, given that this event is located at the juncture of four primary academic buildings and is held at a time that classes are in session; and second, recognizing concerns related to firing weapons on the Grounds in light of gun violence that has happened across our nation, especially on school and university campuses,” the president wrote.
