comments by Monterey Bay Forum, Psychologist  DrCameron:

Does it matter how we age?  Who ages most successfully?  Yes!

George Vaillant, in his book, Aging Wellwhich is based on the Harvard Study of Adult Development, concludes that “[those] who have aged most successfully are those who worry less about cholesterol and waistlines and more about gratitude and forgiveness.”  Other researchers also note the improvement in life satisfaction that accompanies their enhancement.   Vaillant suggests that it’s important to:

  • Develop a clear sense of the meaning of gratitude and forgiveness
  • Consider and appreciate what the research says about the impact of gratitude and forgiveness on the quality of life
  • Learn ways to  enhance the development of the capacity both gratitude and forgiveness

The event hosted Aging with Grace, Gratitude and Grit hosted at Resurrection Catholic Community in Aptos, CA on Oct. 9 gives you an opportunity  connect with your faith community.

the Pope said what we decide he said

Pole says abortion is killing
The Pope said what we decide he said.

The Pope said what we decide  he said.

In Pope Francis’ historic “virtual town hall” last week, the Pope used blunt language.  He   described abortion as killing. And,  Time magazine has felt the need to tone the Pope’s language down by deleting the offensive expression.

Of course, Time magazine wasn’t alone.

The New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, and USA Today didn’t bother reporting on the Pope’s references to abortion at all.   A strong pro-life message doesn’t fit within their narrative of what they want this Pope to be. But at least they didn’t resort to actually fudging Francis’ words.

Move over Lord Byron here comes Fen Chou

Move over Lord Byron here comes Fen Chou.

A  furious ethnic scandal in the world of poetry.:   a white guy got his poem accepted in the 2015 edition of Best American Poetry by

writing under the pen name, “Yi-Fen Chou.” A poem rejected by 40 journals under the name “Michael Derrick Hudson” suddenly became more liked by the editors.

Isn’t the 2015 edition of Best American Poetry precisely where you would expect to see runaway political correctness? Be bothered by this, but don’t be surprised. For better or worse, the editor of the book comes out and addresses his thinking process openly and honestly:

I did exactly what that pseudonym-user feared other editors had done to him in the past: I paid more initial attention to his poem because of my perception and misperception of the poet’s identity. Bluntly stated, I was more amenable to the poem because I thought the author was Chinese American . .

Firenze Sage:   National review actually reviewed and found this bit of …..  depravity.

_____________

below is a poem by Lord Byron

BY LORD BYRON (GEORGE GORDON)

She walks in beauty, like the night
   Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
   Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
   Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

I demand loaves and fishes

I demand loaves and fishes
I demand loaves and fishes

I demand loaves and fishes. A woman  arrested Sunday night  refused to pay her dinner tab at a Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant. Why?  Because, as she explained to police, “Jesus” was going to cover the cost of her meal.

Asked to leave the restaurant she refused.  Ms Yates  had been there 4 hours before told to leave.

Myrtle Beach Police were called to Bennetts Calabash just after 9 p.m. Sunday night when, according to the incident report, 51-year-old April Lee Yates was asked to leave by management, but refused to do so.

The report states that Yates was in the restaurant for nearly four hours before she started to cause a disturbance with other patrons.

Management asked Yates to pay her dinner tab and leave, but she refused to pay the $26 bill.

When the officer asked Yates if she had any money to pay, Yates said she did not. The officer then asked Yates what she planned to do with the bill came, and Yates explained that “Jesus” was going to pay her tab.

Yates was arrested for defrauding a restaurant and booked into the Myrtle Beach jail.

Pope to Bishops: retire at 75! Bishop to Priests: retire at 70!

Pope to Bishops
Pope to Bishops

Pope to Bishops:  Retire at 75 says Pope Francis to  Catholic  Bishops.

But what say Catholic  Bishops to their Rocks (i.e., their Priests)?

Bishop Garcia  says retire at 70 to pastor  at Resurrection Catholic Community in Aptos, California.  The laity were told 05/31/15.

But why does a Bishop — who can do his  duties until age 75 — tell a Priest  to retire at age 70?

I  gather that there are  rock bottom  dogmas   that  Catholics must accept such as the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Birth.  Other issues are deemed  church doctrines  (e.g., the doctrine of ‘ limbo’ and  that priests are not allowed to  marry) and  these are  subject to change over time.   For example,  ‘the doctrine of limbo’ is no longer considered  valid and not preached from the pulpit.   And, Catholic priests did marry for the first 1000 years — just not for the last 1000.

And then there are church practices — such as not eating meat on Fridays.

Where does mandatory  retirement age fall. What category?   Certainly not akin to the Virgin Birth.  And retirement age  does not sound like church doctrine.  So, mandatory retirement age must fall into the third category —  simply a church practice. And  modifiable by laity influence.

_______________________________

Aptos Psychologist:    At this point, Fr. Ron Shirley  must retire at age 70 from Resurrection Catholic Community,  Aptos, CA.   Because the Bishop spoke.

Well,  rocks are powerful pieces in the game of chess.  And Fr. Ron is powerful  in his preaching  and a welcoming presence for all persons — no exceptions.

Why a  mandatory retirement age of  70 for priests when Pope Francis says age 75 for bishops? Ask the bishop.  Ask Pope Francis.

Islamic sex therapy

Islamic sex therapy:   Daniel Greenfeld of Frontpagemag  reports on Homaidan al-Turki, a Saudi rapist imprisoned in Colorado, who claims that his sex offender treatment program is Islamophobic:

Al-Turki’s insistence [is] that he shouldn’t have to undergo sex offender treatment.

Al-Turki told prison officials in 2013 that the sex offender treatment programme “conflicts with [his] Islamic faith”, according to a letter by the then executive director of the Colorado Department of Corrections, Tom Clements.

His lawyers told the court in the same year that the program: “would require [him] to look at photos that included women in bathing suits or undergarments as part of the evaluation process”, AP reported.

That would be the Abel Screening which is supposed to test for assorted deviancies. Undergoing it would be an important prerequisite to parole or transferring Al-Turki to a Saudi prison/resort.

Al-Turki’s original defense was that he did nothing wrong, raping a woman he enslaved and paid $2 a day for work, because Islam permits such things.

Fatwah on Muslims for one way trip to Mars! Not fair!

FATWAH on Mars One plants for one way trips to Mars
Fatwah on Muslims for  one way trips to Mars

Fatwah  on Muslims for  way trip to Mars. Not fair!

Muslim religious authorities think trip is akin to suicide and have forbidden Muslims from going on the one way trip to Mars.

Over 200,000 persons applied for the 4 spots on a ONE-WAY trip to Mars has been whittled down to 1,000.

But Muslims can’t go.

What Mars One says about the one way tickets:

“The Mars One crews are people that want to settle on Mars. Absence of a return mission reduces the mission infrastructure radically. Earth return vehicles that can take off from Mars are currently unavailable and untested technologies and such mission designs incur far greater costs. For the astronauts, Mars will be a new home, where they will live and work. While this may seem unreasonable to some, others have no greater ambition in their life. Such dedicated settlers will be chosen by Mars One as their crews. –

[racial profiling:] Whose side is Holder on?

TWIN TOWERS

Whose side is Holder on?  Racial profiling is bad, bad says Justice:

The Justice Department will significantly expand its definition of racial profiling. Why?

To prohibit federal agents from considering religion, national origin, gender and sexual orientation in their investigations, a government official said Wednesday.

The move addresses a decade of criticism from civil rights groups that say federal authorities have in particular singled out Muslims in counter terrorism investigations and Latinos for immigration investigations.
