Gifted and talented program not diverse enough so scrap it:
A school in Brooklyn has decided to scrap its gifted and talented program after accusations that the program was not “diverse” enough.
Citing a lack of diversity, PS 139 Principal Mary McDonald informed parents in a letter that the Students of Academic Rigor and two other in-house programs would no longer accept applications for incoming kindergartners.
“Our Kindergarten classes will be heterogeneously grouped to reflect the diversity of our student body and the community we live in,†McDonald told parents in a letter posted on the photo-sharing site flickr and obtained by Ditmas Park Corner.
The school is roughly two-thirds African American or Hispanic. Asian and white students account for almost 30 percent of the student body. Exact ethnic breakdowns of the Students of Academic Rigor program were not given, although the program was described by some as being “overwhelmingly Caucasian.”
Soothsayer Kerry on Syria:  On March 16, 2013 Kerry said at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace:
“So my judgment is that Syria will move.  Syria will change, as it embraces a legitimate relationship with the United States and the West and economic opportunity that comes with it and the participation that comes with it.â€

Whose side is Holder on? Â Racial profiling is bad, bad says Justice:
The Justice Department will significantly expand its definition of racial profiling. Why?
To prohibit federal agents from considering religion, national origin, gender and sexual orientation in their investigations, a government official said Wednesday.
The move addresses a decade of criticism from civil rights groups that say federal authorities have in particular singled out Muslims in counter terrorism investigations and Latinos for immigration investigations.

SMILE at 3 people & document their reactions was the last class assignment given in a sociology class before this mother of 3 was to graduate. Â She thought the assignment was a piece of cake …
Breakfast at McDonald’s
This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end! (After the Story, there are some very interesting facts!):
I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree.
The last class I had to take was Sociology.
The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with.
Her last project of the term was called, ‘Smile.’
The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.
I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake,
Literally.
Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald’s one crisp March morning.
It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son.
We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then
Even my husband did.
I did not move an inch… An overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved.
As I turned around I smelled a horrible ‘
dirty body’ smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men.
As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was ‘smiling’
His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God’s Light as he searched f or acceptance….
He said, ‘Good day’ as he counted the few coins he had been clutching..
The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation.
I held my tears as I stood there with them.
The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted.
He said, ‘Coffee is all Miss’ because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).
Then I really felt it – the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes..
That is when I noticed all eyes in the
Restaurant were set on me, judging
My every action.
IÂ smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.
I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman’s cold hand.
He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, ‘Thank you.’
I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, ‘I did not do this for you.. God is here working through me to give you hope.’
I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son…. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, ‘That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope..’
We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.
We are not church goers, but we are believers.
That day showed me the pure Light of God’s sweet love.
I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand.
I turned in ‘my project’ and the instructor read it.
Then she looked up at me and said, ‘Can I share this?’
I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class.
She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed.
In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald’s, my son, the instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.
IÂ graduated with one of the biggest lessons IÂ would ever learn:
Ignorance costs. Most people do not understand  the costs associated with ObamaCare:
For example: Â Do you know what a “deductible” is?
A recent academic study published in the Journal of Health Economicsfound that just 14% of individuals who have health coverage could correctly answer all four of four basic questions about health insurance. For example, they did not know  what a “deductible†and “copay†are.
If comprehension figures are that low for the insured, analysts worry what that portends for the uninsured, especially for a program as complex as Obamacare.
Unawareness of terms like “deductible†could prove mind boggling for people.Â
No more open fires in San Francisco, CA it appears:Â
If you’re in San Francisco this Christmas, you can forget about roasting chestnuts on an open fire.
Bay Area officials issued a ban on both indoor and outdoor fires.
The ban was in effect Christmas Eve and could extend through Christmas Day, reports local news station KTVU.
A governmental body called the Bay Area Air Quality Management District released a “Winter Spare the Air Alert,†prohibiting residents from burning either wood and manufactured logs or any other solid fuels in all fireplaces.
Crime:  First-time offenders will have the option to enroll in a wood smoke awareness class to learn about the hazards of wood smoke pollution, instead of paying a $100 ticket.
The second time someone is caught heating their hands by the fire they will be fined $500. Any further violations will result in tickets demanding more than $500

“It’s worth the trouble. It’s going to be a glorious thing. It’s about life, a healthier life, liberty, the freedom to pursue our happiness. It honors the vows of our founders. A person can follow his or her passion and not be chained by a policy, so they could start a business, be self-employed, change jobs. It’s a very, very exciting thing. And it’s about wellness and prevention. It’s about the health of America, not just the health care for Americans. So we’re very proud of it, and our enthusiasm for it … strengthens our determination to make sure it works.â€

Python strangles and kills a Bali security guard.
The lush Indonesian island of Bali is a tropical paradise full of world-class hotels, amazing beaches and ridiculous yoga retreats. It’s also home to the occasional terrorist bombing (2002 and 2005) and, of course, killer pythons.
One of those pythons strangled a security guard to death outside the Bali Hyatt, a luxury hotel in Bali’s Sanur area on Friday, reports the Daily Mail.
The victim, 59-year-old Ambar Arianto Mulyo, was an employee at a restaurant nearby.
He managed to capture the 15-foot-long snake, which had for awhile been menacing the hotel.
Mulyo spotted the snake and successfully got his hands on the serpent’s head and tail. Then, however, he made the fatal mistake of hoisting the python on his shoulders.
The snake wrapped itself around Mulyo in a flash and suffocated him.
