Word of caution to everyone who feels that they are doing some good in the world by being generous tippers: according to Politico, tipping has a “racist history”:
You might not think of tipping as a legacy of slavery, but it has a far more racialized history than most Americans realize. Tipping originated in feudal Europe and was imported back to the United States by American travelers eager to seem sophisticated. The practice spread throughout the country after the Civil War as U.S. employers, largely in the hospitality sector, looked for ways to avoid paying formerly enslaved workers.
The Rev. Dr. Barber II’s article is one long, desperate pitch for a horrible idea: raising the mandatory minimum wage to $15 an hour. The Rev. Dr. Barber II’s justification for doing so is that it will “end a pernicious legacy of slavery.”
Because of the allegedly “racialized history” of gratuities, the Rev. Dr. Barber II takes umbrage with the entire notion of having to hustle for a buck:
Tipping further entrenched a unique and often racialized class structure in service jobs, in which workers must please both customer and employer to earn anything at all.
Somebody should tell the good Rev. Dr. about all of the people who aren’t in the service industry and work on commission alone. I sold real estate to pay for college back in the day and my guaranteed minimum wage was $0.

Firenze Sage  jaj48@ao.com   Racism” has no more meaning than Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky.
Symbols of American freedom matter. Don’t sell shoes with a Betsy Ross flag?  Why? Because African-American Kaepernick  finds the Ross flag symbol offensive and associated with slavery. Get real.
Does Kaepernick know anything about Betsy Ross? Anything about early American history?
Betsy Ross is a woman to admire not spurn.
Let’s compare 2019 ex- football player Colin Kaepernick with 1776 seamstress Betsy Ross:
Personal commitments to family?  Kaepernick has a girl friend [Nessa Diag] since 2015. He’s not married and no children. Betsy Ross was soon widowed after marrying at age 21 outside her Quaker faith which caused her to be ‘read out of the Quaker church’ for doing so.  She later married again and had children.
Professional skills?  Colin  Kaepernick was a second string quarter back who turned down a contract with the San Francico 49ers. He is a rich, civil rights agitator.
Betsy Ross was child number 8 of 17 children. Betsy  attended a Quaker school 8 hours a day to learn sewing, reading and writing. She became a skilled seamstress. Fairly soon after marriage to John Ross at age 21, Betsy’s husband died while he was guarding ammunition.
A few months after her husband’s death, Betsy met with the Committee of Three which included George Washington. This meeting lead to Betsy Ross’ sewing of the first American flag.
Whence the term?  ‘Women of color’ is a a self description which four women  representatives have taken to self promote their collective  image of themselves as victims.  They  view of themselves as victims of political oppression. Victims of racism.  They see themselves as oppressed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, by Trump administration policies and by various other entities.
The term ‘colored women’ would be offensive to ‘women of color’.  The term ‘colored persons’ has been used by various social justice activists to separate ‘whites’ [of European origin] from everyone else aka ‘colored persons’ [not of European origin].
Thus, according to some persons including these four ‘women of color’ ‘racism’ is built into the very fabric of America. These ‘women of color’ forget — or never learned – that the U.S. Constitution permits major league changes such that women and African-Americans vote and own property.
It’s our Constitution which gives more freedoms to the individual, and protects those freedoms, than anywhere else in the world.
But why do these four ‘women of color’ take for themselves what belongs to all women in the USA?
We are all American women of color . Who doesn’t have ‘color’?  Get real.  Most every woman in America, except albinos, have some color to their skin.
USA women are different ‘tints’.  Some of us are darker, some lighter, some with warmer tones, some with more yellow pigment some more red.
Usage of color in the English language. It’s true that English  language describes various groups as having ‘color’. Examples: Historically we’ve described native Americans as having ‘red skins’ though they don’t have red skins.  Currently 9 out of 10 Native Americans support the use of Red Skins as a name for a football team.  In the 1940’s the term ‘yellow pearl’ referenced  fear of a Japanese invasion of the West coast after Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese.
English references ‘color ‘ in many ways pertinent both to individuals and groups of people.  The term ‘black heart’ references morbidity and sorrow.  “White hats’ and ‘black hats’ references  the good guys versus the bad guys. Tom Mix always wore a white hat  for example.
References to black and white in general goes back thousands of years. Take early Judeo-Christian religion. Light refers to what’s good and darkness refers more to evil and that which is bad. The Light of the World, a reference to Jesus Christ, references light as good.
How about black. Are blacks actually ‘black’? Not according to their DNA according to some research.  There’s research that one-third of all USA born Afro-American men have some ‘white’ DNA. Ms. Ayana Pressley, one of four ‘women of color’ whom Trump tweets recently (WSJ 7/15/19) is African-American.
What are these ‘women of color’ doing?
These four ‘women of color’ seek to connect their definition of ‘color’ with racism. The world out there is racist per their view and they as victims speak out against all that ‘racism’. Interestingly, they individually and collectively rail against Israel.
What do we know about these four:
Ms. Omar, the only one of the four born outside the U.S. came as a child from Somalia. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is of Puerto Rican heritage. Ms. Tliab is Palestinian-American and Ms. Pressley is African-American.
What do they say?   Racism, racism everywhere and worst in America say these ‘women of color’.
Progressive Democrats and much of mainstream media beat the drums of racism as central and integral to the fabric of America.
They need to broaden their life experiences.  Let all these progressives  and liberals who are not liberal go live in Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, China and Russia for a couple years.
Then come back and discuss their experience of freedom in those countries compared to America.
These four ‘women of color’ whine. And then they dine on the American fruits of freedoms which come only from the U.S. Constitution.  Â
The  way current  Council meetings are currently conducted is an abomination .
I suggest that each member of the council be required under penalty of forfeiture of  to submit 24 hours in advance of any meeting a statement in writing which sets forth the member’s views on issues to be voted upon and contentious issues which are not to be voted upon.
The views are not binding but are for the purpose of alerting the assembled crowd to the position of the particular   council member which would allow a member of the audience to focus his question on the issue at hand. And, furthermore, it would require the councilmember to answer a specific question with respect to his view and why he holds it.
Question: Should those illegal immigrants also be allowed to vote in CA local and state elections? Is it time to control our southern border with Mexico?
Spokespeople for Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins did not respond to questions whether it’s appropriate for lawmakers to get special services at the Capital office. Of course not.
I agree that only U.S. citizens can register to vote in California state or local elections. CA has a border with Mexico and thousands of persons illegally cross the border The statistics are staggering.
These illegals are citizens of other countries and their allegiance is to those countries — not to the U.S. Only people who stand in line and legally are permitted to enter and later go through the process of becoming a U.S. citizen should be permitted to vote in CA elections. Trump funny? Pelosi out of it? America more free in 2018? You decide.
Where are American freedoms in 2018?
Thump  was supposed be history by summer 2017.
The  Clinton/ Steele dossier, which  was used to get a FICA warrant to spy on Trymp, continues to unravel as 2018 progresses.
Some of the freedoms Americans experience as of March, 2018 include:
A ‘funny’ President who pokes fun at himself and ridicules his opponents. Trump provides better entertainment than Late Night TV. Catch Trunp’s rendition of how to be Presidential.
